What we are particularly looking forward to in the coming weeks

“Charisma and energy”

Our social media manager Eleonora Gelmetti is already looking forward to the concert with Abel Selaocoe and the Aurora Orchestra on March 3:

“He is very charismatic and has this energy that you notice right away on stage. Even though he's playing a more classical program this time than in his last concert with us - last season he was here with the Bantu Ensemble, now with the Aurora Orchestra - I think you'll feel a lot of that again. He strikes a really nice balance between Western classical music and his South African roots, cello and his overtone singing. I am a fan of experimental music and love the search for unusual sound effects on an instrument. But Abel always takes you with him.”

“the whole house full of sound”

A highlight for Christine Mellich from  “Junges Konzerthaus” is Children's Day on March 9: “Then, the whole house will be full of sound: With music from classical and world music, jazz and folk songs, with the Konzerthausorchester and small ensembles, with an instrument carousel, stilt artists* and children's laughter. Many short, lively and interdisciplinary concerts in the middle of the day will enable several generations to participate in Berlin's concert life. Everything finely mixed between pillars and cake - that's the Children's Day anticipation of my colleague Leonie Hentschel and me.“

“a multi-talent und a cosmopolitan”

Programme Director Dorothee Kalbhenn is looking forward to a concert on March 14: chamber music that unites members of the Konzerthausorchester with the composer & pianist Lera Auerbach at the piano, to whom we have dedicated a “Creative Portrait”: "Lera Auerbach has just cast a spell over everyone with a world premiere for the Konzerthausorchester Berlin and a touching portrait evening. She is fascinating, a multi-talent, a cosmopolitan. Over the last few months, she has grown more and more into the “Konzerthaus family”. So it's no wonder that perhaps her most personal work is on the program: “Monologue” for double bass solo, which she composed for a former fellow student for his final exam at the legendary Julliard School - in exchange for his help with her move with far too many boxes of books. The fellow student from back then is now her husband and will certainly be sitting in the audience at this personal finale to a special residency."

“A congenial musical unity”

Immanuel Klein, who works in our programme department, has studied singing himself and is especially looking forward to the concerts on March 15 & 16, when the Konzerthausorchester will be joined by William Christie and Les Arts Florissants, “[...] that congenial musical unity that has been instrumental in shaping historical performance practice for more than 45 years. For me, this, combined with the performance of Joseph Haydn's last completed composition, his “Harmony Mass”, is a guarantee of an unforgettable evening!”

“Warmth and Depth”

Violinist David Bestehorn is looking forward to Bruckner 3 conducted by Christoph Eschenbach on March 28, 29 & 30. For David, he is  ”... a phenomenal musician with a great soul! It's always a highlight of the season for me when Christoph Eschenbach steps onto the podium and with his very first gestures conjures up sounds from the orchestra that hardly anyone else can achieve - such warmth, such depth!“
