The labyrinth of life
”Sometimes I can hardly keep up with myself,’ says our artist-in-residence Lera Auerbach, when asked about her many talents. She is a truly universal artist: composer of everything from chamber music to opera, pianist, conductor, poet and visual artist. When she fans out her multifaceted oeuvre during her portrait evening, a whole universe really does open up. Lera Auerbach presents some of her works of art and herself live in conversation and as a pianist, both solo and in duet with her long-time companion, the American violinist Philippe Quint. Above all, however, she will present a collage created especially for this evening, in which she interweaves photos from her earliest childhood in Russia, her own poems and film footage of selected projects: ‘Life is sometimes as confusing as a labyrinth, and we need help to find our way out. For me, my memories are an important orientation aid in the labyrinth of the present, like a red thread that guides me.“ You rarely get closer to such a widely talented artist than on this very personal evening.
