Roberto de la Guía studied at the Freiburg University of Music with Fabrice Millischer. He was a member of the Karajan Academy of the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra and solo trombonist in the Wuppertal Symphony Orchestra until 2023.
He is a laureate of some of the most prestigious trombone competitions, including IPV International Trombone Competition, Michel Becquet International Trombone Competition, Aeolus Competition, Concorso Internazionale “Città di Porcia” and ARD Music Competition Munich. In addition to his orchestral activities, he teaches master classes and trombone festivals worldwide.
If I hadn't become a musician, I would probably have dedicated myself to biology, as I am fascinated by nature and everything to do with it.
The best thing about being an orchestral musician is the opportunity to create something bigger than yourself. The feeling of collective energy, together with the transience of music, makes every concert a unique experience.
I have always been fascinated by the cello. Its register is very similar to that of the trombone. To be honest, I always strive to sound like a cello in my head when I play.
