A celebration for Christoph Eschenbach's 80th birthday

Our new principal conductor Christoph Eschenbach turned 80 years old on 20 February 2020. From 25 February to 1 March 2020 we will celebrate with him and many other musical companions and friends. Singer Matthias Goerne, violinist Midori, violist Nils Mönkemeyer and other guests will arrange a festive chamber concert on 25 February in our Small Hall.

Orchestre de Paris with Lang Lang und Ray Chen

We also welcome guests from France: the renowned Orchestre de Paris, of which Christoph Eschenbach was the Chief Conductor from 2000 to 2010.  He remains closely connected to the orchestra and will conduct them in two concerts. With Lang Lang, who chose Beethoven's second piano concerto for his performance, as well as Ray Chen, who will play Mendelssohn's violin concerto, two soloist will be our guests, who value Christoph Eschenbach highly as a Mentor and close friend.

Brahms with the Konzerthausorchester

Naturally, the Konzerthausorchester will as well celebrate Eschenbach’s birthday under his baton: with Brahms’s Third, he will continue his symphonic cycle. Moreover, his long-time companion and friend Tzimon Barto will perform Brahms’s second piano concerto.
