Michael Erxleben studied in Dresden with Annemarie Dietze, in St. Petersburg with Michail Waiman and in Berlin with Werner Scholz. He has performed as a soloist in Europe, Japan, China and the USA, including with the Munich Philharmonic, the Berlin Philharmonic and the Concertgebouworkest Amsterdam. He has recorded violin concertos by Shostakovich, Schoenberg, Stravinsky, Hartmann and Martin on various labels. Until 2001 Michael Erxleben was Artistic Director of the Neues Berliner Kammerorchester together with Jac van Steen. He teaches as a visiting professor at the Berlin University of the Arts.
