Petr Matěják studied in Philadelphia at the Curtis Institute of Music and at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. He was strongly influenced by the violinist Václav Hudeček, with whom he often gives concerts together. Before joining the Konzerthausorchester, he was First Concertmaster of the Orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin for three years.
